All About Mrs. O'Malley...

I was born and raised in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio--AVON LAKE!  It was a great place to grow up, as we lived right on the shores of Lake Erie.  It was right there in Avon Lake when I first decided I wanted to be a teacher.  At Redwood Elementary School, I had some of the most memorable teachers, but it was my fifth-grade teacher, Mr. Ruth, that forever changed me and made me want to be just like him!  He made learning fun, meaningful, and memorable--These are qualities I try to carry with me into my own classroom, hoping to do the same!

My dad and my stepmother are both teachers, so naturally I wanted to follow in their footsteps, making plans to go to Kent State University to earn my Bachelors in Elementary Education.  I later married my high-school boyfriend and moved to Dayton, Ohio, where I began my teaching career in Miamisburg City Schools teaching fifth grade.

Upon moving to Georgia, I began teaching at Big Creek Elementary, first as a fifth-teacher and then as a Horizons teacher.

Today I reside right here in Cumming, Georgia with my husband and two children, Christian and Courtney.  I love reading, writing, scrapbooking, playing tennis, and watching my children play basketball and soccer!  My daughter Courtney will be a eight grader at PGMS here in Forsyth.  Courtney plays both sports, and she's enjoyed great success and amazing opportunities in both arenas... Christian is now a junior at SFHS, and not only plays soccer and basketball, but loves sports in every form!  He loves being a part of DECA, and placed top ten internationally in Anaheim at ICDC, the international DECA competition.  We are quite a busy family!

I have always loved reading and writing, and I made a promise to myself many years ago that I would someday write a book of my own....someday!
I love teaching  fifth graders [AND first graders], and I especially love teaching Horizons here at Sharon Elementary.  I'm so excited for the new challenges ahead:  teaching advanced content language arts to fifth graders and working with my favorite people (5th graders AND 5th grade teachers!) Last year was our second year with this new model, and it just seems to get better and better!  I truly feel like I'm getting the very best of both worlds!  Two PERFECT worlds!  It's going to be a fantastic year!  Bring on 2013-2014!
