Forsyth County Schools is home to 21 outstanding elementary schools, featuring grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. All buildings are new or recently renovated, and include a cafeteria, media center, stage, gymnasium, playground and outdoor play fields. School designs vary across the county, and include one or two-story buildings.
FCS offers Ninth District Opportunity Georgia Pre-K programs at Brookwood ES, Chestatee ES, Cumming ES and Matt ES. Elementary schools begin at either 7:40 am (normal release at 2:20 pm and for scheduled early release days, students depart at 11:50 am) or 8:20 am (normal release at 3:00 pm and for scheduled early release days, students depart at 12:30 pm). Based on primary residency, school attendance lines determine the elementary school children attend.
Students study language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. In addition to the core areas, students also receive instruction by certified teachers in physical education, art and music. All elementary classrooms feature a built-in projector and interactive whiteboard. Computers are available to students in the classroom and media center, and also with portable computer stations. Various schools have opened or are working on opening science labs or provide science specials.
Elementary schools provide numerous programs to meet the needs of all students such as special education (including speech), early intervention, English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and gifted. School websites have a complete list of the activities and clubs offered at each school.
All schools have a full-time certified nurse on staff, as well as counselors and Instructional Technology Specialists (ITS). Each school offers an after-school program and has numerous volunteer opportunities for parents, including PTA/Os, Local School Councils (LSC), mentoring and classroom volunteers. Transportation is provided for all students, and breakfast and lunch are served daily.
