Fourth Grade / About

Welcome to Settles Bridge Fourth Grade

Fourth grade is an exciting year. Please take a minute to meet our wonderful team.

This year we have six sections of fourth grade. Fourth grade implements a rigorous, sequenced curriculum designed to meet the unique needs of intermediate students. Much emphasis is placed on reading in the content areas. A focus is placed on problem solving and the application of skills. The curriculum includes:

Integrated, skill based language arts program (reading, writing, spelling and English)

For the first quarter of our school year, we will be focusing on the following:

English/Language Arts/Reading (ELA)

Comprehension of grade level text
Identifying various genres
Making judgments and inferences
Refers to text to find details
Understanding vocabulary and Greek/Latin root words
Ideas, organization, style, and conventions in writing
Basic parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adverbs, pronouns, adjectives)
Figurative Language (Similes and Metaphors)
Applies grade level spelling/phonics skills
Uses various reference materials to support writing

Understanding place value
Rouding
Addition and Subtraction
Multiplication and Division
Applies mental math and estimation strategies
Solves problems
Communicates mathematically
