We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with you during the 2012-2013 school year. Each teacher is very passionate about the education of your child and will work hard each day to give them everything they need to be successful. Reading

We will read many exciting stories in class. Guided reading groups will enable the students to develop fluency and comprehension in reading, as well as learning new skills and strategies. Some of the skills that we focus on are: main idea and detail, sequencing, author's purpose, genre, vocabulary in context, and inferencing.

Accelerated Reader will allow students to take comprehension tests on books within their individual reading levels.

Spelling

Student spelling will be graded within their daily writing.

Sentence Structure - complete and incomplete sentences, subject and predicate, declarative, imperative, interrogative, and exclamatory sentences
Parts of Speech - nouns, verbs,adjectives
Dictionary and thesaurus skills
Four types of writing - narrative, response to literature, persuasive, informational
