The HORIZONS program at VCE recognizes the diverse needs of gifted learners through multi-disciplinary thematic units and activities. Students apply high level thinking skills and make informed decisions, understand and apply concepts, make reasonable judgments, and implement strategies for solving problems. This differentiated curriculum accounts for the diverse learning styles of students while concentrating on critical thinking, risk-taking, curiosity, and interpersonal relationships. Creating a supportive environment permits students to develop a sense of self-worth, a desire for excellence, and an individual commitment to the school, the community, and the ever-changing society. COMMUNICATION I. Mrs. Stark and Ms. Disraeli send a bi-monthly email to parents of current Horizons students. The email serves as an update to the curriculum and events in the Horizons classroom. If you would like to be added to the distribution list to receive the updates, please email Lisa Stark or Lynn Disraeli. II. Mrs. Stark and Ms. Disraeli use Edmodo as an extension of the Horizons classroom. By incorporating Edmodo into the gifted classroom, students, parents, and teachers can communicate with one another. Homework assignments and links to websites are also posted. Current Horizons students have a class code in which to join his/her Horizons Edmodo group. Additionally, parents may access Edmodo by using the parent code issued by Edmodo once your child has successfully joined the Horizons Edmodo group. III.
