As for my philosophy of teaching band, I make sure students are well grounded in the fundamentals of music reading, tone production, rhythm recognition and ensemble playing. Some times things will go slower than students want, however in band we are all dependent on each other for a fine performance. I plan to keep the grades separate in performances to help develop the entire group.
Students need to practice a minimum of 20 minutes a day for 3-4 days a week. More practice will of course be better, less practice and the studetnt will not improve. For the best results for your child, consider private instruction. In band class I do not have the luxury of spending enough individual time with every child. A 1/2 hour lesson once a week can fix problems that may be undetected in class. If you are interested, please email me for a list of proven instructors in the area.
I look forward to working with you in the musical development of your child in preparation for their transition to high school.
