Reading  
Your child will have the opportunity to read many exciting and challenging books both independently, in small groups and through whole group guided reading. Students will also have the chance to take Accelerated Reading tests on the books they read within their AR levels. Guided reading groups will enable students to develop fluency in reading and to learn new skills and strategies.

Spelling
Each week, students will take a spelling dictation using our spelling patterns. We will also focus on No Excuse Words.

English

  • Geographical Understanding: Reading Maps with locations of Rivers and Mountains in U.S.A.

Health
First Aid, Safety, Five Senses, Disease Prevention, Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs, Emotional Health, Family Life
 
Grading
The following scale is used to assess progress in the following areas: Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Health.

4- Completes Standard Mastery 
3- Consistent Achievement towards Standard Mastery 
2- Moderate Achievement towards Standard Mastery    
1-  Limited Achievement towards Standard Mastery

Homework
Homework comprising of spelling, math and writing will be assigned Monday through Thursday. Please expect homework to take approximately 30 minutes. In addition, students are responsible for reading at least five nights per week for 20 minutes.
 
Communication
Please check the teacher website at least weekly for important information such as: weekly newsletters, homework updates, etc. Graded papers will be placed in your child’s Friday Folder. It should be signed and returned on the next school day. Students will be responsible for bringing their STAR folder with them to school daily.
 
Transportation Changes
Please notify your teacher, in writing, of any changes in your child’s transportation from school. This is very important because without appropriate notification, the teacher will have to send your child home in the usual manner.
