Work-Based Learning/ Youth Apprenticeship programs (WBL/ YAP) in the Forsyth County Public Schools are structured experiences that connect a student's career goal and classroom learning with a productive work environment. Students in WBL may be paid or unpaid.
WBL/ YAP provides students with opportunities for instruction not only in academics but also in occupational skills, career exploration, and guidance in identifying employment and educational goals. Students have the opportunity to connect what they learn in school with work-site application, enabling a smooth transition into the work force and/ or education beyond high school.
The WBL/ YAP Program includes:
- on-the-job training guided by a skilled work-site mentor,
-
training based on competency standards developed by industry and labor, and
-
student support through a work-site mentor, a school WBL facilitator, and a Forsyth County Schools Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator.
Students must be at least 16 years of age to participate in WBL/ YAP. Consult your school counselor, school WBL/ YAP coordinator, or county coordinator for further information.
The application process:
- Application (obtain from the school WBL/ YAP coordinator)
- Three recommendations (English, math, and elective teachers)
- Review of discipline record and semester averages
