• Reading: This year we will take a closer look at main idea and details, story elements, text features, poetry, Greek mythology, inferencing, vocabulary, and providing supporting evidence. We will also be comparing texts, while incorporating information from various text to write or speak about it. We will conduct small groups each day that specifically meet the needs of your child. During this time we will focus on comprehension, fluency, and accuracy. We will also model skills and strategies that will equip them to become a better reader!

     

    Writing: We are very excited to utilize the Lucy Calkins Writing Program this year.  This is an in depth program that models the critical writing skills that students need. Students will brainstorm ideas, write rough drafts, learn editing strategies, and complete final drafts.  In addition, students to use strong supporting details, vivid vocabulary, and voice in their writing.  Writing genres will include narrative (stories), informational, and opinion pieces.

    Math

    We are very excited to utilize a new math program this year, which focuses on a true understanding of math. We will also implement a daily math journal. Math journal centers around a class discussion and focusing on multiple ways to solve a problem.  Students will learn a deep understanding of math vocabulary and the "why" behind math!
