    Virtual Battle of the Books

    *Registration is now closed.

Check out a book and R-E-A-D...like a hero!  This year we will have ebooks available for the majority of our titles. You will be able to reserve them and access them without having to leave home! More information to come!

Our first meeting will be in October. We will have an outdoor tshirt drive-thru pick up for tshirts and BOTB packets for virtual students the week of October 12th. Face to Face students will receive their tshirts and BOTB packets from their homeroom teachers.

The Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program for students 1st-5th grade.

Battle of the Books registration is open on My Payments Plus from August 1st-31st. The cost is $20 for the year. Each student that registers will receive a "READ...like a hero" SPES tshirt. Students read books from their respective book lists August-April and come together (virtually) in teams of 4 to demonstrate their abilities, have FUN, and to test their knowledge of the books they have read. The BOTB school competitions will take place in early May and the top team in each level (3-5) will move onto the county competition. Students that join a BOTB team should commit to reading at least 10 books from the list.

Our aim is to support students in their love and discovery for reading by introducing them to quality literature, to offer books that build upon historical values and the dignity of life, and to develop friendships between students based upon socialization, competition, and mutual respect.*Books encourage students to learn new skills, explore new worlds, build new ideas, and change the world. Yet every child has different needs.

*2020-2021 We will begin the year with virtual meetings, a tshirt, and a BOTB packet. We will play games, and have book trivia during our meetings. I will record the meetings for you to view at your convenience. I also recommend that groups of students go ahead and form teams of 4 (if you can, otherwise, I will form teams based on classrooms). You may have a parent or older sibling act as a "BOTB coach" and assist students with keeping up with their book charts, listen to audiobooks and discuss characters and events, make it F-U-N! There are some GREAT books on our list!  We hope to go back to Face to Face meetings as the year progresses but until then...please register, print your reading list, and start reading! Unfortunatley, we are not planning on a having county BOTB at any level this year.

Ultimately parents will know if a book is developmentally inappropriate. Please review the list for your child’s grade level and decide accordingly based on what is best for your family. Check out the book list for your grade level. Our school library has multiple copies of each book title. You may check out 1 BOTB at a time. Virtual students may reserve a book title and pick up/drop off at school.

Please check your BOTB list prior to reserving/checking out ebooks.
