• Competition

DECA’s competitive events program directly supports our mission. As an integral part of the classroom curriculum, DECA’s industry-validated competitive events are aligned with the National Curriculum Standards in the career clusters of marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism. DECA's flagship evaluation process involves students in both a written component such as an exam or report and an interactive component with an industry professional serving as a judge. DECA’s competitive events directly contribute to every student being college and career ready when they graduate from high school. Students compete at the regional, state, and international levels.

There are 4 types of competitive events:

    • Roleplay- A hypothetical situation in which you are given a role and asked to respond as you would in a professional environment.

      • Singular- career cluster exam, 10-minute prep time, 10-15 minute interview

      • Team (TDM)- career cluster exam, 30-minute prep time, 10-15 minute presentation

    • Manual- A written DECA event exploring prompts in several different categories. The prompts range from business plans, research, and many more.

      • One to three participants, ten to twenty pages, tri-fold board diagram, 15-minute presentation at state

    • Virtual business challenge- Online simulations to learn how to invest in the stock market, manage personal finances, or operate a business venture.
