• This year in Math classes we will maintain standards from years previous, as well explore several new standards.  As we review the maintenance standards, and introduce new standards, we will learn to think at a higher level.

Our first unit this year is data analysis.  Some of these standards are review and others are brand new.  Students will explore how to create and analyze several types of graphs, including bar graphs, line graphs, circle graphs, line plots and venn diagrams.  Students will learn which graph is best for a certain set of data.  Students will also how to calculate and justify the mean, median, mode and range of a set of data.

In the second quarter we dive into fractions.  Students will learn how to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators.  They will also multiply and divide fractions.  After this unit we will move on to a measurement unit that will cover area of squares, rectangles, triangles and circles.  Students will also learn how to find the circumference of a circle and to convert between metric and customary units of capacity.  The last thing we cover is congruence of shapes and figures.

We will be working with your student on how to become a confident problem solver all year long!  They will learn it is ok to mistakes, and they will see how they can learn through their mistakes!!!
