I received my bachelor’s degree from Miami University (Ohio), my master’s from University of North Georgia, and my specialist from Lincoln Memorial University. My husband and I reside in Cumming with our three children, but I was born and raised in Ohio.
I am so excited to be starting my 15th year of teaching. I just love kids and teaching! After many years of working in accounting, I decided I wanted to give back to the community and went back to school. I earned a master's degree in teaching at Piedmont College. My experience includes ten years teaching fourth grade, one-year teaching third grade, and three years teaching second grade. I am married to a wonderful husband of 27 years, and we have three college age children. My son just graduated from Georgia Tech, his twin sister has started her master’s at Valdosta University, and my youngest daughter attends Kennesaw State University. I can’t wait to get to know my new students😊

My name is Betzy Ortiz and I have had the pleasure of serving at Cumming Elementary for 6 years. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Liberty University. I love spending time with my kids, reading self-help books, and shopping. My favorite parts of teaching is building relationships with the students, learning from them, and watching not only their academic growth but also their social emotional growth. I am excited to embark on a new journey, to teach the 2nd grade Dual Language Immersion program this coming school year (#2020), and eager to make connections with my students and their families. ¡Hasta Luego!
