On March 30, 2015 Governor Deal signed HB91 to eliminate the Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHST), including the Georgia High School Writing Test (GHSWT) and all predecessors, as a requirement for purposes of graduation.
The February 2015 GHSWT and the March 2015 GHSGT mark the last administration of these tests, and Forsyth County Schools will not be administering the GHSWT in June 2015. Scores will be reported for the February and March exams, although it is no longer a requirement to pass these test to earn a diploma.
Applicants seeking approval of waivers of the GHSGT or the Georgia Basic Skills Tests by the State Board of Education will be informed of the change in state law and directed to the appropriate local school system to determine if they qualify for receipt of a high school diploma based on completion of all state and local graduation requirements except passing all sections of the GHSGT or the Georgia Basic Skills Tests. Accordingly, student waivers of the GHSGT or the Georgia Basic Skills Tests to the State Board of Education are no longer required.
