I am starting my 23rd year of teaching ALL at Matt Elementary. I am blessed to be teaching the Gifted Education Program for a 5th year. I love teaching passionate k – 5th grade creative minds, watching them grow, and excel above and beyond their regular classroom standards.
I have a son that will be a junior at GA Tech. He is studying Aerospace engineering with the hopes of working on our space satellites, (He wants to fly up in space). I am engaged to a wonderful man, Ron, and we love to repurpose old furniture and are working on a total remodel of our own house, as we speak. We live here in Forsyth County, at the most northern point. We love the lake, and you will find us there often.
Besides gifted, I have also taught inclusion, 4th grade, 3rd grade, and 2nd grade. I hold a master's and specialist degree in integration of technology K–12 and am also endorsed with my gifted certification. I value my students’ thoughts, ideas, and actions because each student holds their own unique talents and strengths. I cannot wait to begin exploring new concepts, and passions and building budding relationships with all my students as we “do not go where the path may lead, but instead go where there is no path and leave a trail!”

I am super excited to be teaching our gifted kids this year. It will be my 28th year of teaching. I have taught all elementary grades, including 2 years of gifted, in both Gwinnett and Forsyth counties. Most of my time has been spent teaching 1st and 5th grades. I have my undergraduate degree from Georgia State University and my master’s degree from Piedmont. I also have a math endorsement. In addition to teaching, I will be heading up our Math Team called “ The Matt Math Magicians” this coming school year!

Hello! I’m Stephanie Spooner, and I’m so excited to join Matt Elementary as a gifted teacher! This is my 27th year teaching. I have taught first through fifth grade, advanced curriculum classes, gifted, and STEM. This is my second year teaching in Forsyth County, and I LOVE it! I transferred from Jackson County. I love building relationships, challenging students and observing all of their unique qualities. I also value what I learn from them each day. Teaching makes me HAPPY!
I just celebrated my 24th year anniversary with my husband Russ, and we have two grown children, Tristen and Jillian. I also have three dogs Minnie, Roo, and Whimsy to fill the nest now that my kids have moved out.
When I’m not at school, I love spending time with my family and friends, reading, gardening, and learning new things like pickleball and kayaking. I can’t wait to meet everyone and become an official Mariner! This is going to be an amazing year!
