Terri North – Principal
DeSana Middle School
As the very proud principal of DeSana Middle School, I am truly excited about the many possibilities for all of our young Dragons this new year at DeSana! Working with middle school students is my passion, and our young Dragons are some of the finest around! I am inspired daily by our enthusiastic and energetic teachers and staff, and so appreciative of the commitment and support of our parents! Our community businesses and owners in the area have been quite impressive in their willingness to support our myriad of DeSana programs, activities and events, as well as lending their ongoing support for our students and staff. Working together, I am quite confident that we will provide a top-notch education for our young Dragons!
This is my fortieth year as an educator, with all 40 years devoted to working with pre-adolescents. I can’t think of anywhere I’d rather be than working with middle school-aged kids! They are exciting . . . invigorating . . . energetic . . . inquisitive . . . inspiring . . . and quite intelligent! As we continue along on this grand adventure at DeSana, I am thrilled to work with our young Dragons . . . helping to grow and broaden a plethora of opportunities for them so that they may continually. . .
Collaborate . . . Create . . . Innovate . . . Persevere . . . Inspire!
Before beginning my ventures as an administrator, as a classroom teacher I was fortunate to teach all four core academic subjects at all three middle school grade levels (6th, 7th & 8th), including a one year stint my first year, teaching Physical Education. Math and Science, however, are my true loves! Throughout my 12 years in the classroom, I also had the good fortune to work with students across the academic achievement spectrum - - - from kids below grade level to gifted kids. Thus, my experiences in the classroom have been quite varied.
My educational background includes an Education Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of West Georgia; leadership certification from Emory University; a Masters degree in Middle Grades Education from Georgia State University, and an undergraduate degree in both Education and Psychology from Duke University. For sure, my veins run “Duke Blue” during college basketball season!!!
This is my twenty-fourth year as a principal, with twenty-three of those years served with Forsyth County Schools. I served as the principal of Otwell Middle School for seven years and opened the new Otwell facility in 2001. In 2004, I opened Riverwatch Middle School and served as the principal there for three years. Piney Grove Middle School was my next school to open, serving nine years as principal there. DeSana Middle School is my fourth facility to open. And it has, indeed, been such a pleasure to open this new school, as we continue to plan for and initiate more opportunities for our young Dragons!
While leading a middle school keeps me quite busy, I still enjoy finding time for reading, waterfall trekking and hiking, and taking photographs out in nature. For me, it doesn’t get much better than spending a gorgeous day up in the mountains, hiking around and taking photographs!
This promises to be another exciting year at DeSana as our DeSana Family works together to build upon what we have established these past three years . . . creating a fabulous school where our young Dragons’ imaginations, ingenuity, and passion for learning continue to grow and thrive every single day! Here’s to an awesome school year! For . . .
