Battle of the Books
The Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program for students 1st-5th grade. Battle of the Books registration takes place in August. Students read books from their respective book lists August-April and come together in teams of 4 to demonstrate their abilities, have FUN, and to test their knowledge of the books they have read. The BOTB school competitions will take place in early May and the top team in each level (3-5) will move onto the county competition. Students that join a BOTB team should commit to reading at least 10 books from the list.
Our aim is to support students in their love and discovery for reading by introducing them to quality literature, to offer books that build upon historical values and the dignity of life, and to develop friendships between students based upon socialization, competition, and mutual respect.
*Books encourage students to learn new skills, explore new worlds, build new ideas, and change the world. Yet every child has different needs. Ultimately parents will know if a book is developmentally inappropriate. Please review the list for your child’s grade level and decide accordingly based on what is best for your family.
