RIFLE TEAM TRYOUTS
The Rifle Team competes under rules set forth by the Georgia High School Athletic Association. All equipment required to compete is provided by the Marine Corps JROTC program. All the shooting team will have to provide is their shoes (approximately $150) and obtain a current sports physical. Shooters must be enrolled in the MCJROTC program.
Rifle Team tryouts will take place from 11-22 September from 1600-1800. The first day of tryouts will include a safety lecture. All shooters MUST attend this event. To help defray the cost of pellets, shooters will be asked to donate $5.00. Tryouts will begin and end on time. Parents are asked to arrange for timely pickup of their cadets.
We will carry a varsity team of 12 shooters and a Junior Varsity team of 6. To receive a NFHS letter, a shooter must shoot in at least three varsity matches and attend a minimum of 75% of the team’s practices. We will practice in the mornings from 0630-0800 (Monday through Thursday.)
Rifle Team participation requires the same dedication and commitment as any other varsity sport. Passing grades must be maintained, practices attended and cooperation must be extended to the coach and other shooters. As it is impossible to be in two places at once, shooters may have to make a decision between being on rifle team and participating on other athletic teams of being involved with other extracurricular activities. The Team will begin practice the first week of October and we will shoot until mid-April---- Rifle Team has the longest season of all GHSA sports.
This year the team has been shooting exceptionally well. As of 3 April, they have a regular season record of 5-1. They have two post season wins and wil shoot in the state semi-finals against Kennesaw Mountain on 12 April.
