  • What is International Baccalaureate (IB)?

The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) is a nonprofit educational foundation with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland and was created in 1968. It provides three related programs to more than 1,900 authorized schools in 124 countries (as of March 2007). The IB Diploma Program incorporates a rigorous curriculum which provides perhaps the most thorough preparation for university-level study available. IB teachers strive for a shared academic experience emphasizing critical thinking and exposure to a variety of viewpoints that fosters tolerance and intercultural understanding among our students.

If you have general questions about the IB program, please contact the IB Coordinator. If you have specific questions about a course, you should contact the teacher of that course.

The South Forsyth High School International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or Career-related Programs could be for you!

South Forsyth High School has been an authorized IB World School since 1999. With this authorization, South Forsyth High School is able to offer our students one of the most rigorous high school programs of study that is recognized both nationally and internationally. The IB Diploma Programme and IB Career-related Programme equips students with skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking and fostering intellectual curiosity. Emphasis is also placed on helping students become well-rounded individuals through creativity, activity and service learning activities. Through these activities students have opportunities to contribute to their local and global communities and become more active citizens of our community.  The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. (IB Learner Profile booklet 2006). The goal of the SFHS IB Diploma Programme and the SFHS IB Career-related Programme is to prepare students with the skills and knowledge to be successful in high school, college, and life.
