Join our panel of experts as we discuss how COVID-19 is impacting the college search and admission process for the Classes of 2021 and beyond.
Rick Clark, Director of Undergraduate Admission at Georgia Institute of Technology; Carol Lee Conchar, Regional Director of Admissions at George Washington University; and Ginger Fay, former Senior Admissions Officer at Duke University will discuss topics such as:
As standardized test dates are postponed, will institutions place greater weight on grade point average (GPA) and strength of schedule? What other factors may have increased weight?
As high schools remain closed and learning moves online, how will students' grades from this year be perceived?
With campus closures limiting students' ability to visit colleges and participate in events, how can students demonstrate interest and learn which school is best for them?
2020 Joyce Hawkins Scholarship- Cumming Civitan Club is awarding two $2000.00 scholarships this year to seniors attending Forsyth County High Schools. This scholarship award is built around community service and good citizenship. The deadline for submission is April 30, 2020. Application and information HERE.
Several other local scholarships are due in April, and we would like to encourage senior students to checkout the list on our webpage: https://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/site/Default.aspx?PageID=51301
While we are in a virtual setting, the colleges around America are, too! Do you want something different to “do” or a new place to “visit” with your teen? Most colleges are now offering virtual tours and some are even offering Q&A or 1:1 meetings with admissions offices “virtually”! This is a great time to explore and make the most of your virtual learning experience.
YouScience is an aptitude and interest assessment that all of our students can access to assist with Career Exploration. This unique assessment can allow students to not only find careers of interest, but also ones that utilize their unique skills. We recommend that every student take this exam to make sure that they are aligning their courses and postsecondary plans with their career goals. Here are the instructions for login:
- Get into Infinite Campus
- Click on More
- Click on SLDS portal
- Click on My Career Plan
- Click on Go to YouScience
- Create your student account
The assessment will take about 1.5 hours, but it can be done in “chunks”. It consists of several 7-10 minute “brain games”, so make sure your student is in a quiet space so that they get the optimal results.
- The Forsyth County School’s Dual Enrollment Deadline has been extended to May 15th. Many schools are longer using admissions tests to determine eligibility, but this is based on each institution. To apply, students must send in an application, send transcripts by paying $4.25 on myPaymentsPlus and emailing the receipt to Ms. Santiago at firstname.lastname@example.org, and send test scores (if you have them). If you are applying to a technical school and they will accept PSAT scores, email Mrs. Spurlock at email@example.com so that she can send them securely to the college(s). Once a student is accepted into a college, they need to contact their counselor to set up a parent/guardian meeting to finalize courses and review the DE program.
- The portal will open for “View Only” from March 31st- April 2nd so that students can view their finalized courses for the 2020-2021 school year.
