    German 1:
    German 1 provides opportunities to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing in an integrated way. German 1 is intended to extend the proficiency approach to learning as a means to develop, maintain and enhance the acquisition of German. Learners will practice the four modalities (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in order to communicate meaningfully, effectively and creatively in the target language for real-life purposes.

    German 2:
    German 2 enhances Level I skills in German and provides opportunities to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing in an integrated way. German II is intended to extend the proficiency approach to learning as a means to further develop, maintain and enhance the acquisition of German. Learners will practice the four modalities (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in order to communicate meaningfully, effectively and creatively in the target language for real-life purposes.

    German 3:
    German 3 continues the study of the German language, emphasizing all four skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in an integrated way. Students will communicate and exchange information about familiar topics using phrases and simple sentences, sometimes supported by memorized language. Students handle short social interactions in everyday situations by asking and answering simple questions. Students will also develop an understanding of German-speaking cultures.

    Spanish 1:
    Spanish I introduces the Spanish language; emphasizes all skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in an integrated way. Includes how to greet and take leave of someone, to ask and respond to basic questions, to speak and read within a range of carefully selected topics and to develop an understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures.

    Spanish 2:
    Spanish II enhances Level I skills in Spanish and provides opportunities to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing in an integrated way. Spanish II is intended to extend the proficiency approach to learning as a means to further develop, maintain and enhance the acquisition of Spanish. Learners will practice the four modalities (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in order to communicate meaningfully, effectively and creatively in the target language for real-life purposes.

    Spanish 3:
    Spanish III is designed to help students further develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in real-world situations in a spontaneous and non-rehearsed context. An emphasis is placed on developing accuracy as well as increasing the amount of language students are able to produce using the three modes of communication – Interpersonal, Interpretive, Presentational.  Students will also explore cultural themes through videos, music, and art.

    Spanish 4:
    Spanish IV enhances listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Spanish in an integrated way and prepares students for college-level AP Spanish classes. Spanish IV provides for a broader and more extensive understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures through an exploration of history, art, and literature.  An emphasis is placed on increasing language proficiency through the three modes of communication – Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational.

    Spanish 4/ AP Spanish Language and Culture Block:
    Enhances Level III skills in Spanish and provides further opportunities to increase listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in an integrated way. Provides continued language development through exploration of familiar and unfamiliar topics and provides opportunities for a broader and more extensive understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures. In addition, conforms to College Board topics for the Advanced Placement Spanish Language and Culture Examination. Emphasizes the ability to comprehend formal and informal spoken Spanish, to acquire the vocabulary and grasp of structure to read newspapers, magazines and Hispanic literature, to compose expository passages and to speak accurately and fluently.

    AP Spanish Language and Culture
    Enhances Level IV skills in Spanish and provides further opportunities to increase listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in an integrated way. Provides continued language development through exploration of familiar and unfamiliar topics and provides opportunities for a broader and more extensive understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures. In addition, conforms to College Board topics for the Advanced Placement Spanish Language and Culture Examination. Emphasizes the ability to comprehend formal and informal spoken Spanish, to acquire the vocabulary and grasp of structure to read newspapers, magazines and Hispanic literature, to compose expository passages and to speak accurately and fluently.

    AP Spanish Literature and Culture
    The AP Spanish Literature and Culture course uses a thematic approach to introduce students to representative texts (short stories, novels, poetry, and essays) from Peninsular Spanish, Latin American, and United States Hispanic literature. Students develop proficiencies across the full range of communication modes (interpersonal, presentational, and interpretive), thereby honing their critical reading and analytical writing skills. Literature is examined within the context of its time and place, as students reflect on the many voices and cultures present in the required readings. The course also includes a strong focus on cultural connections and comparisons, including exploration of various media (e.g., art, film, articles, literary criticism).
