Chattahoochee Elementary has a school-wide Title I program.
We invite you to click through the slides from our Title I Annual meeting to learn more about what being Title I means for your child.
What is Title I? Title I is a federally funded program that is intended to supplement the regular classroom curriculum. Students are provided extra assistance in reading and/or math. The program's goal is to support students, so that every child meets and/or exceeds the state's standards. A variety of teaching methods and materials are used to reinforce curriculum concepts. What does school-wide Title I mean? A school-wide Title I program ensures the success of all Chattahoochee Elementary students. Everyone has access to the numerous resources and materials purchased with Title I funds, including iPads, Chromebooks, computer programs, books, manipulatives, and learning games.
How does this impact my child? Your child has access to excellent resources and enriching programs. Your family makes a difference in our school through volunteer opportunities, education classes, and parent advisory committees.TITLE I INFORMATION- There are five Title I schools in Forsyth County: Chattahoochee Elementary, Cumming Elementary, Chestatee Elementary, Little MIll Middle School, and Otwell Middle School. Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965 is the largest federally funded educational program. This program, authorized by Congress, provides additional funds to school districts to help qualifying schools meet their educational goals. Title I funds are used to promote high academic achievement for all children, provide a greater focus on teaching and learning, and improve communication among schools, parents, and communities.
- The Georgia Department of Education submitted to the U.S. Department of Education an application requesting flexibility through waivers of ten Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requirements. The Waiver allows the Forsyth County Schools greater flexibility in the areas of improving outcomes for all students, closing the achievement gaps, increasing equity, and improving the quality of instruction. Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, Georgia transitioned from Needs Improvement (NI) distinctions based on Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) reports to Reward, Priority, Focus, and Alert schools based upon the Waiver formulas. In addition, a new Single State Accountability System, the College and Career Readiness Index (CCRPI), serves as a comprehensive report card for all schools in Georgia. As a parent, you will be notified of the status of our school each year and will receive information about our school’s CCRPI score.
As a family in our Title I school, your involvement is very important to us. Each year, you can expect the following from us:
- We will revise our school-parent-student compact and family engagement policy based upon parent feedback and new school data. The compact will outline how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved academic achievement. These documents will be distributed to parents in multiple ways and in an understandable language and parents will have the opportunity to provide input.
- We will revise our Title I (school improvement) plan based upon new school data. We welcome your feedback as we go through this process. Please send any comments concerning the Title I plan to our school’s principal.
- We will schedule an annual Title I meeting, at a time convenient for parents, to ensure that all parents of participating children learn about (1) their child’s participation in Title I programs,(2) the components of our school’s school wide Title I plan, requirements of Title I, and each parent’s right to be involved. All parents will be invited and are encouraged to attend.
- We will offer a number of other meetings and workshops, at flexible times, so that as many parents as possible can attend.
- Our school will provide you with timely information concerning (1) a description of our school’s curriculum, (2) your child’s standardized assessment results, (3) other assessments used to measure your child’s progress and expectations concerning the levels that students are expected to meet, and (4) ways that you can monitor your child’s progress and work with our school to improve your child’s academic achievement.
- We will provide you with many opportunities to provide feedback and be involved in decision-making. These include completing school surveys, talking with teachers and administrators about your child’s needs, and participating in Title I meetings.
- We will involve you in decisions concerning how family engagement funds are budgeted in our school. One percent of our district’s Title I budget is set aside for parental involvement, including promoting family literacy and parenting skills. At least 95 percent of the 1 percent goes directly to schools. We will seek your input concerning how these funds should be spent.
- Teachers supported with Title I, Part A funds are highly qualified. As a parent, you may request certain information about the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers. Also, we will notify you if your child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified.
