AP Exam Registration Questions:
What is meant by a "complete" registration?
Registration is a two-step process involving the My AP Classroom and Total Registration.
- Students must indicate in the MY AP platform they are taking each exam, by selecting "Yes" under "Order Exam." This platform is also where they complete their personal information for College Board to create exam labels for testing May.
- For all exams they intend to take in the spring, students must register and be paid in full in the Total Registration platform,
I am taking an AP Course through FVA and my teacher is not from my base school. How do I register?
- You will register for resources with a join code for your FVA course and select “No” for your intent to take the exam. This will allow you to access the AP resources with your virtual teacher. The "No" selection may not be an option in some online platforms.
- You will register to pay for the AP exam through your base school’s Total Registration website.
- You will receive an additional "Exam Only" join code from your base school through the Total Registration website, by selecting "Independent Study" for your teacher.
- This "Exam Only" join code allows you to register for an “Exam Only” section in My AP platform, where you will select “Yes” if you wish to take the exam.
I am planning on taking a spring semester GAVS AP Course and exam in May. When do I register?
- You will have a short spring semester window, starting in January, to register for spring GAVS AP Course exams.
- FIRST: You will register for resources with a join code for your GAVS course and select “no” for your intent to take the exam.
- SECOND: You will register to pay for the AP exam through your base school’s Total Registration website.
- THIRD: You will need to request an additional “Exam Only” join code from your base school’s AP Coordinator. This join codes is to use in your My AP platform to register for an “Exam Only” section, where you will select “yes” if you wish to take the exam.
- GAVS second semester only courses registration closes February 20, 2024.
Are any exam fees covered by the state?
- OPTION 1: The state of Georgia will cover the exam fee of $98 for one STEM content exam.
- Students are still responsible for the $25 administrative fee- only the exam fee is waived.

OPTION 2:For public school students who individually qualify for the College Board fee reduction, the state of Georgia will pay for one AP Exam in any subject, with the exception of AP Seminar and AP Research Exams.
- Please note that the state will only pay for one exam for this category of students and documentation for individual qualifications must be available in the event of an audit.
- For students in this category, who are taking more than one exam, the College Board lowers the cost to $53.00 per exam to be paid by the student.
- Students in this category must be verified according to FCSS guidelines.
