Hello, and welcome to 2nd grade! This will be my 23rd year teaching and my second year in Forsyth schools. Previously, I was in Gwinnett county schools where I taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades as well as ESOL and EIP over the years. The past 8 years I have been teaching 3rd grade but am looking forward to getting back to 2nd! I am originally from New York and attended S.U.N.Y. Cortland for undergrad, majoring in Elementary Ed. I have a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology from Troy University. I live here in Cumming with my husband, daughter and our fur babies (two cats, one dog). We love the beach, and spending time together. I feel blessed to be joining the Shiloh Point family this year!

    Ms. Karen LaPointe

I am originally from New England, and lived in Connecticut and New Hampshire. I taught elementary education in both states for fourteen years, nine of those years teaching second grade. I joined the Shiloh Point family in 2017 as a substitute teacher and then as an instructional aide. I am very happy and excited to be teaching second grade, and promoting the confidence, growth, and success of our students. I am looking forward to our time together.

    Ms. Sydney Schmuggerow

I graduated from Georgia College and State University with a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education. I have always been passionate about teaching and I am thrilled to be able to grow and live out my passion as a Shiloh Shark!

    Ms. Ashley Sciro

My belief of education is that each child learns differently, and it is my job to reach each child on his or her level while engaging and challenging all learners. I believe in inquiry-based learning to promote higher level thinking. I empower my students to work at establishing and reaching their own goals in becoming life-long learners.

    Ms. Laura Serra

It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment: (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people.
