Welcome

  • The Mathematics program at Lakeside Middle School is challenging and rigorous at each level that is offered. Teachers follow the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Mathematics as well as county guidelines. In 6th grade there are three different levels of math. For students to be considered for accelerated 6th grade math, they had to qualify at the end of 5th grade.

Advanced 6th Grade Math: In this course, students master all of the 6th grade standards and some specifically chosen 7th grade standards. In addition to the standards required for this course, students in these classes will master the 7th grade Rational Numbers and Proportions standards.

Accelerated 6th Grade Math: In this course, students master all of the 6th standards and the first semester of the 7th Grade standards.

    Updated Math Standards (23-24)

My name is Rene Blackstone and I am so excited to be a part of the Lakeside Middle School team! I have been teaching for almost 18 years and throughout those years I have had the opportunity to teach 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. I have had some experience in just about every core subject area, but my true love is definitely for MATH and SCIENCE. I earned both my Bachelor of Science in Education degree and Master of Education degree from Georgia State University with certifications in all middle grade subjects, general science, ESOL and Gifted. I'm looking forward to another great year!

After graduation in 1983 from UGA with a B.S. in Computer Science, I enjoyed a rewarding career in the computer industry working for several large companies including The Home Depot, Wang Laboratories, and Arrow Electronics. After many years of extensive travel, I decided to leave the computer industry in 2002 to spend more time with my family. I earned my master’s degree in Middle Grades Education with a concentration in Mathematics followed by an Education Specialist's degree. Currently celebrating my 18th year of teaching, I have been a math teacher at Lakeside Middle School since we opened. My husband and I reside in Forsyth County surrounded by wonderful friends and family. In the fall, we enjoy watching football games for both the Georgia Bulldogs (me) and Clemson (Mr. Bouknight) as well as keeping up with the Atlanta Braves.

This is my 15th year teaching middle school. I originally earned my Bachelors degree in Sociology at Rollins College in Central Florida.  I went back to school and earned my Masters degree in Teaching from Brenau, and am currently finishing my Specialist degree in Teacher Leadership through Valdosta. When I'm not at school, I love to be with my family outside. On the weekends you will find me in the North Georgia Mountains spending time hiking or exploring. I also love to read and play with my dogs, Willow and Millie.
