Welcome

  • The Mathematics program at Lakeside Middle School is challenging and rigorous at each level that is offered. Teachers follow the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Mathematics as well as county guidelines. In 6th grade there are three different levels of math. For students to be considered for accelerated 6th grade math, they had to qualify at the end of 5th grade.

Advanced 6th Grade Math: In this course, students master all of the 6th grade standards and some specifically chosen 7th grade standards. In addition to the standards required for this course, students in these classes will master the 7th grade Rational Numbers and Proportions standards.

Accelerated 6th Grade Math: In this course, students master all of the 6th standards and the first semester of the 7th Grade standards.

After graduation from the University of Georgia in June of 1983 with a B.S. in Computer Science, I enjoyed a rewarding career related to my degree working for several large companies including The Home Depot, Wang Laboratories, and Arrow Electronics. After many years of extensive travel, I decided to leave the computer industry in 2002 so that I could spend more time with my family. I earned my master’s degree in Middle Grades Education with a concentration in Mathematics followed by an Education Specialist's degree. I am certified to teach Middle Grades Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies, and I also hold a Gifted Endorsement. Currently celebrating my 17th year of teaching for Forsyth County Schools, I have been a math teacher at Lakeside Middle School since it opened. My husband and I reside in Forsyth County surrounded by wonderful friends, neighbors, and family. In my free time, I enjoy golf, tennis, and watching games for the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves.

Originally from Hamburg, New York, Mr. D has been teaching in the state of Georgia since 2001. He spent his formative teaching years in elementary school, and in 2006 decided to use his math skills to enlighten 8th graders about Algebra. After opening Lakeside in 2009 and spending 4 years in 8th grade, he was asked to coach teachers on how to make math fun at Chattahoochee Elementary. He then found himself 4 years later returning to Lakeside, where he is currently helping 6th graders learn the intricacies of the GSE in Mathematics. He also still dabbles in Algebra.

After earning my Bachelor's degree in journalism from Utica College of Syracuse University in 1984, I worked as a newspaper and medical journal reporter for 10 years before having children. I then followed them to school and in 2003 began working as a paraprofessional in kindergarten and in special education at Mashburn Elementary. I fell in love with educating children and pursued that passion by earning my teaching certificates in special education and middle school math. I am in my fourth year of teaching math at Lakeside Middle School... Go Lions!

This is my 14th year teaching middle school, and I am really excited to be at Lakeside teaching math. Sixth grade is my favorite group of students to teach. I love to be outside, and on the weekends you will find me in the North Georgia Mountains spending time hiking or exploring. I also love to read and play with my dogs. I have a son here at Lakeside, and a daughter who is grown up and moving out this year.
