Dear Parent/Guardian,
Feedback is a powerful tool for improvement. Sports teams watch films after a game to get feedback on areas of strength and areas of improvement to play better in the next game. Businesses ask for reviews on a product or service which provides feedback to improve products or services. In education, we use assessment results as feedback to analyze and improve student achievement.
The Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) and End of Course (EOC) assessments are summative, end of year assessments, designed to provide data (feedback) about performance at a variety of levels (student, class, grade, school, district and state).
Results from the Georgia Milestones assessments provide feedback for students and parents to answer the following questions:
- What has the student learned in the current grade/course?
- What strengths does the student have going into the next grade/course?
- What areas of support might the student need going into the next grade/course?
Results from Georgia Milestones assessments provide feedback for teachers and schools to answer the following questions:
- What instructional strategies are teachers using that help students master standards?
- What areas might teachers and grade levels need additional training and support?
- Are programs/initiatives successful?
- What else needs to be done instructionally for success?
Results from the Georgia Milestones assessments provide feedback for districts to answer the following questions:
- Are the district instructional resources making a positive impact on learning? Do additional resources need to be purchased?
- Is district professional learning effective? Does additional instructional training need to be provided?
The Georgia Milestones assessments will be administered in Forsyth County starting April 22. Please encourage your child to relax, show what they have learned, and help them understand their results are used to help them become the best student they can be!
Please feel free to contact your school’s administration or either of us on the FCS Assessment team if you have questions.
