Cumming Elementary ESOL Program
Cumming Elementary serves over 400 students in the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages program. Students are given the WAPT or WIDA Screener assessment when they register at the Hill Center. Their level of English proficiency is identified. Eight master teachers, with over 100 years of teaching experience, serve these students at Cumming Elementary!
Language acquisition develops through stages in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. We have students at all stages and levels at Cumming Elementary. Students receive instruction in inclusion and pull-out settings. Due to IE2, we are able to provide additional segments for many of our EL students. Many are receiving up to two fifty minute periods daily. .
Students are assessed yearly, in February, with the ACCESS test. The results are used to determine the level of language development and type of assistance needed by each student. We are very proud of our EL students!
The websites below will give EL students additional practice in listening, speaking, and reading English. If we can ever be of any service to you, please give us a call or email.
