Dress for Success

Throughout the career and technical education curriculum in Forsyth County, occupational dress codes are studied as part of the pathway. In addition, students are taught and shown examples of proper interview attire in preparation for community Mock Interview Weeks, CTSO events, scholarship interviews, graduation ceremonies, and other important times during their high school careers. Because of the emphasis placed on appropriate dress, all high schools implement Dress for Success Days several times each school year. Overall, this program seeks to remind students that clothing and appearance are important parts of making a good impression.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS DAYS ALLOW STUDENTS TO:

  • Foster confidence and continue to develop a positive self-image
  • Understand the importance of dressing well for an interview
  • Analyze various types of attire for the workplace
  • Describe components of acceptable dress for an interview
  • Explain various definitions of business casual dress and discuss why companies have different definitions of business casual

ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS OF DRESS FOR SUCCESS DAYS:

  • Campus Impact: Students around the school campus not involved in a career pathway or CTSO learn more about the importance of looking your best!
  • Family/Community Connections: Local business/industry are able to demonstrate and speak to classes about proper interview attire and bring samples for students to see.
  • CTSO Connection: Students learn how proper dress will impact them in student competition related to their career pathway.
  • Service Learning Projects: Students are encouraged to organize service-learning projects around dressing successfully. This may come through organizing a professional interview clothing drive or selling awareness bracelets, stickers, etc. to support their CTSO.
