Overnight / Out-of-State Field Trips
Student Support Forms:
Field Trip Checklist (Recommended)
Chaperone Background Check (Required if adults are supervising groups of students)
General Guidelines
- Trips must be submitted for approval from the Principal and Chief of Student Support before discussions with students or parents.
- Overnight trips are limited to high school students participating in competitions, performances, and leadership opportunities.
- Student costs should be kept to a minimum, with every student given the opportunity to attend regardless of ability to pay.
- Trips should be carefully scheduled to minimize student and teacher absences.
Any out-of-state or overnight requests must be submitted online to the Student Support division prior to the trip for their approval. Exceptions will be made for state championship progressions, etc. Schools will be notified by email of all approved out-of-state or overnight field trips immediately following approval by the Chief of Student Support. In all other cases other than championship progressions, no overnight trip will be approved without following these procedures.
The guidelines for all field trips apply, and in addition, for overnight trips:
- An administrator should accompany the group. Exceptions to this may occur with extracurricular trips for competition, i.e. the debate team, Academic Bowl, etc.
- Adult chaperones are on duty for the entire trip, 24 hours per day. They must be accessible to students and follow the Code of Conduct/Ethics.
Other
Trips that involve "tours" and opportunities to do "invitational performances", to Europe, New York, the west coast or various cruises will not be considered as school system or school approved field trips. All such trips should occur on non-school days.
