Our report cards aim to inform parents about their child’s progress toward mastering the skills and knowledge expected at each grade level. Students in grades K - 5 are graded on a nine-week grading period. Report cards are posted electronically in Parent Portal. Parents may request a hard copy of the report card from their child’s school.
KindergartenThe ideas and learning progressions used to document and report student progress come from the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). These progressions were provided to school districts as part of the kindergarten formative assessment tool. These learning progressions indicate the skills students need to be ready for first grade.
First - Third Grade
The report card communicates the progress each student is making toward meeting grade-level standards using standards-based reporting for core content classes.
Fourth - Fifth Grade
Students will receive a report card that includes both numerical grades and proficiency rating based on standards-based reporting for core content classes.
Elementary students are rated using the grading scale below in Special Areas and Work Habits. Special Areas include Art, Health, Music, and Physical Education.
Work Habits define work ethic and behaviors that impact student learning in the categories of responsibility, participation, assignment completion, and interpersonal skills.
Students in grades 6 - 8 receive grade reports on a quarterly basis throughout the school year. Parents may request a hard copy of the report card from their child’s school.
Middle school courses vary in length (Quarter, Semester, Year-Long). Report cards include a numerical average grade scale for the grading period, and work habits rating for each course. Final grade calculations for year-long courses are the average of semester 1 and 2. Detailed grading information can be found on Parent Portal.
Formative Assessments include but are not limited to, homework, classwork, labs, investigations, practice tests, rough drafts, and sections of projects/research papers/presentations.
Summative Assessments include, but are not limited to, unit tests, final projects, final essays, formal lab reports, final research papers, and presentations.
If a student is taking a high school credit course in middle school that requires an End-of-Course Assessment (EOC), the EOC assessment grade conversion score has a weight of 10% on the final course grade. 45% (Semester 1) + 45% (Semester 2) + 10% EOC = Course Average.
Beginning with the 2025-26 school year, all middle school core content teachers--Math, Social Studies, Science, and English Language Arts--will administer district-created common midterm and final exams. This initiative supports Forsyth County Schools’ Strategic Plan by promoting consistent assessment and grading practices that improve student learning and instruction.
All report cards have a section defining work ethic and behaviors that impact student learning in the categories of responsibility, participation, assignment completion, and interpersonal skills using a 3-point scale: 3 (Exemplary), 2 (Satisfactory), 1 (Needs Improvement).
