• The counseling program at Sawnee Elementary School strives to help every student be successful through classroom guidance, individual and small group counseling, and through consultation with parents, teachers, and community resources.  We are fortunate to have 2 full-time counselors, 1 half-time counselor and our counselor IA!

Mr. Zach Kissell, Counselor Grades 3-5

I am excited to join Sawnee Elementary!  I hold a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the University of Tennessee, a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Georgia and a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University. My professional credentials include being a Licensed Educator with a specialty in early childhood education,  National Certified Counselor, and Licensed Associate Professional Counselor.   My wife Melanie and I recently moved our family to Forsyth county for the strong community and excellent schools.  We love to spend time with our sons Zeke and Wyatt in the great outdoors, hiking through the woods, and playing in the backyard.  Let's work together to make this school year a success.

I earned Master Degrees in Special Education and School Counseling. I have thirty-six years experience working with children as a teacher and School Counselor. Jansky, my certified Assistance Dog, has worked with children and staff as a Therapy Dog for nine years. We love what we do.

Ruthie Urban, Counselor Grades K-2

I am excited to start my 8th year as the counselor for kindergarten, first, and second grade at Sawnee. My husband Chris, my son Noah, and daughter Liv moved to Cumming in 2014 and I have been at Sawnee ever since.  I have a BA in History from the University of Iowa.  I  spent some time in the classroom as a teacher before earning my MA in School Counseling from Concordia University of Chicago. Mrs. Desiree Clark, Counseling Support

I am excited to join the counseling team this year. I hold bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Georgia. I am currently working on a Master of Education in School Counseling from Valdosta State University and will finish in December. This is my seventeenth year at Sawnee and I have been in education for twenty-one years. I live in Cumming with my husband, and my two daughters, both of which came through Sawnee. I enjoy collaborating with our team and helping to create a safe and supportive school environment for our students. I am so happy to be a part of the Sawnee family and look forward to working with our students and families.
