I am thrilled to begin my 21st year in education and 1st year as a part of the first grade team at Sharon Elementary.
I received my undergraduate degree in Special Education from Buffalo State College in May of 1997. For the past 19 years, I’ve worked with K-2 students in Conyers, GA. I taught kindergarten for 11 years. In 2007, it was an incredible honor to to be recognized as J.H. House Teacher of the Year. I switched to 1st grade, enjoyed it, and stayed a total of 5 fun-filled years. Since my strength as a teacher has always been to my ability to help those children that are falling behind, I became an EIP for grades K-2 in 2014. My goal is to help students not only learn the academic content but to facilitate creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving so that students become life-long learners with a sense of pride and ownership in their education.
I was born in the small town of Grand Island, NY which is nestled between Niagara Falls and Buffalo. I just celebrated my 19th anniversary with my wonderful husband -- Paul Dugas. Paul has worked in IT for the past 21 years and finished his MBA this past fall at Georgia State University. Although Paul and I do not have any children, we are the parents to an adorable 10 1/2 year old "dogger" named Baylee. She’s a border collie/lab mix that we rescued. We moved to Roswell in 2015, but I've been in Georgia since 1998.
When I’m NOT teaching, I enjoy music, dancing, game nights with great friends, but most of all, I love spending time traveling to Buffalo, Philadelphia, New York City, and Los Angeles to visit my large family that continues growing every day! It’s tough having family scattered all over the country, but it does make time together that much more special.
