Mrs. Charla Altom

I am a two-time graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama which is my hometown.  I completed a bachelor's and a master's degree in Elementary Education. I am proud of maintaining a 4.0 in my graduate work.   I am beginning my seventeenth  year of teaching.  I love children of all ages and enjoy teaching different grade levels and subjects!  I have taught all elementary grades except for Kindergarten and second but I have taught second grade math!   In the past five years of teaching I have taught, first grade, fifth grade, and fourth grade.  I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to teach third grade for the 2020-2021 school year as third grade is where I began my teaching career.  It will be amazing to return to this age of child!  This is my third year at Sharon and I have taught in Fulton County, Gwinnett County and in Birmingham, Alabama.  Teaching at Sharon is like a dream come true.  Sharon Elementary and Forsyth County are by far the most amazing places I have taught and I am so happy to be a part!

I am married to Kent Altom who is an attorney who also teaches Business Law at the University level.   We have just celebrated our twenty-third anniversary.  We have a fourteen year old daughter, Carly, who will be a freshman at Lambert.  Our family of three lives in Johns Creek.  Our daughter was attending our wonderful neighborhood schools but in 8th grade we moved her to Riverwatch Middle to be on the same schedule as me as well as to allow her to experience the wonderful schools in Forsyth County.  We are so happy with that decision.

In my spare time, I love to travel and spend time at the pool and beach.  I love eating out and exploring new restaurants.  I am an avid Auburn football fan having grown up going to all the games with my family who all graduated from there except for me!  I love all things girly like manicures, pedicures, massages, shopping, and taking photographs and making photo books online.

Spending time with family is super important to me.

I want your child to experience a kind, loving and caring teacher.  I am flexible, nurturing and very approachable.  I want this to be the best year your child could dream of having.   My classroom has a “family atmosphere” and I know this is one of many reasons we all love Sharon.  This reputation led me to the school and I could not be happier or prouder to be a part of the Sharon Family!

I am very excited to be teaching at Sharon Elementary.  This is my 23rd year of teaching elementary school in Georgia and New Hampshire!  I am married to my wonderful husband, John, and have 4 sons, Shane 25, Zachary 24, Ryan 18 and Kyle 12.  I also have 4 fur babies,  2 dogs- Roman (boxer) and Chloe (shih tzu) and 2 cats - Little Joe and Lucy. We are always busy and having fun with the family.  My favorite things to do are reading, hiking, boating, shopping and  watching my boys  play sports. Our family is huge NE Patriots fans.

I grew up in Pennsylvania and received my teaching degree at California University of PA.  After college, I moved to GA where I began my career teaching Kindergarten and 1st grade.  My family and I moved to NH for two years where I taught 2nd grade, then we moved back to GA for 3 years and I taught 3rd grade.  Our family missed the seasons and beauty of New England, so we moved back to NH for 3 years and I taught a year each in 1st grade, 2nd grade and 5th grade.  Even though we absolutely love New Hampshire we decided to move back (for good!) to be closer to family. We are excited to have made our home in Forsyth County. I am absolutely thrilled to work with you and your child to make their 3rd grade year a wonderful experience.

Hi! My name is Robin Ryan and I could not be more excited about being a part of the 3rd grade team at Sharon Elementary.

I was born and raised in Toccoa, Georgia. I graduated from Georgia Southern University with a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. Mike and I have three beautiful children. McKenzie will be a Sophomore at Georgia Southern University, Michael will be in 11th Grade at Lambert, and Jack will be in 9th grade at Lambert High School. They are the loves of our life, and we enjoy every minute we spend with them! I also have two adorable dogs…Georgia and Chubb. I am a huge sports fan. I love UGA football, watching my kids play sports, shopping, reading magazines, and I also love listening to country music.

This will be my 24th year teaching in Forsyth County. I taught four years in Kindergarten, one year in 1st grade, and nineteen years in 3rd grade. Every year has been exciting and memorable, as I have been lucky to teach such wonderful students. Sharon Elementary School is a great place where I truly enjoy being around such enthusiastic students, staff, and parents.

In my classroom, I promote an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect.  I work hard to build a sense of community among my students, and I emphasize the idea of teamwork.  I value cooperation and collaboration both in my classroom and as I work with my peers.  I believe that great things can happen when we work together! Sharon is a place where I really feel like part of a strong community and part of a winning team. This year will be fun and exciting.  I am committed to teaching your child in a positive, supportive, and loving environment in which every child is successful! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my love for learning with your child.

I am so happy to be at Sharon Elementary, working with the best staff, best parents, and best students! I was born and raised in Ohio, but moved to Georgia with my family in 1984. After graduating from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, I began my teaching career in Cobb County. I taught 3rd grade (my favorite!) in the same school, even the same room for 10 years! During that time I met and married my husband, Jackson. We moved to Jacksonville, Florida and then Charleston, South Carolina. During my 8 years in Florida and South Carolina I continued teaching as a reading safety-net teacher, kindergarten special education teacher and a science lab instructor. Finally, we made it back to Georgia! I worked again in Cobb County for 2 years as a science lab instructor. My love of science is enormous and I love to share my lab experiences with the students of Sharon! This will be my tenth year working here at Sharon and I am excited for my next group of third graders!

My husband and I are official "empty nesters" this year! My daughter, Rachel (24) graduated from the University of Tennessee and is in her second year of medical school at Emory University. Emily (21) also attends the University of Tennessee and is studying interior architecture. Go Vols! My youngest, Ryan is 18, and will be starting his first year at Emory University. Rachel was married this summer and now I have a son-in-law, Brandon! Brandon works in finance in downtown Atlanta. I also have a super cute Schnauzer named Quincy! I spend my weekends spending time with family and friends,  cheering for Tennessee football, reading, cooking, running on the greenway, and taking Quincy to the dog park!

After taking a few years off to spend a little extra time at home, I returned to teaching at Sharon. Welcome to Third Grade! I am thrilled to be at the beginning of another school year! Here is a little background about me: I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. Teaching is what I love to do and it's where my heart is. I love helping students discover a love of learning! It's amazing to see how much growth they make in a year. This school year marks my 15th year of teaching. I spent the first 6 years of my career teaching second grade in Jackson County. This year is my 9th year as a third grade teacher at Sharon Elementary. I could not be more proud to call myself a Sharon Knight!

I am originally from upstate NY, and went to college in Boston, Massachusetts. While in Boston, I earned a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and Human Development. After college, we moved to Georgia, and I later went on to earn a Masters degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. My husband Matt and I have three beautiful children. My step-daughter Dianna is  a freshman this year at Kennesaw State  University. Our two youngest are here with me at Sharon. Our son, Matthew is in 4th grade this year, and our youngest, Shea, is in first grade! We also have two dogs named Ollie and Penny. Outside of school, I love to spend time with my family, read, watch football (go Giants!), cook, and bake.

I cannot wait to meet my new group of third graders. I know it's going to be a fantastic year!

Hello! My name is Kristi Vervack. This is my third year as part of the Sharon Elementary family. I am originally from the beautiful city of Chicago. I moved to the Johns Creek area in 2016, when my husband’s job led us down south. We absolutely love it here! I come from a family of educators, and I have been an educator myself for fifteen years!   I graduated from Florida State University (GO NOLES!) with a degree in Elementary Education, and an endorsement in Art. I went on to complete my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, and added an additional endorsement in ESOL from Concordia University Chicago. I love to be creative. My hobbies include cooking/baking, painting and photography.  I also love to exercise and be outdoors with my kids, Zac (8) and Ainsley (6). We also have two golden retriever puppies this year, Ace and Ana, that we are absolutely obsessed with!
