Children go to physical education class twice weekly. During this time they learn games, sportsmanship, and how to be physically fit.
Students also go to art and music every week where they participate in hands on activities to broaden their horizons in fine arts.
Todd Phillips - Technology
Mr. Phillips is married to Misclaidy Viera who also works at VCE. We have two teenage boys, Jake and Dillon. He enjoys spending time with his family and dogs, traveling, gaming, and adventure. Mr. Phillips earned a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a Master's in Technology Education. Mr. Phillips started teaching in 1993 and has taught a variety of grade levels and subjects, including, 1st, 5th, 6th-grade math. The majority of Mr. Philips' career has been in Technology Education. Mr. Phillips has been teaching Technology Education since 2000.
Amanda Lemke - Art
I was born and raised in Orlando Florida. I graduated from Florida State University in 2001 with my degree in Architecture and Design. We moved to the Atlanta area in 2005 and LOVE living in North Georgia. In 2010, I graduated from Brenau Univesity with my Masters in Education. Combined, I have over 10 years in the education field with 6 of those years at Vickery Creek Elementary school. My passion is art and design and I love teaching art at the elementary level.
Kassie Smith - Health & Wellness
My name is Kassie Smith and I am the Health and Wellness Teacher for grades Kindergarten- 5th. This will be my eighth year teaching at Vickery Creek Elementary. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of North Georgia, and recently received my certification in Mindfulness and Movement. I am excited to teach the students at VCE the importance of being physically, mentally, emotionally and socially healthy!
Carolyn Purcell - Media Center
Welcome to the Vickery Creek Media Center! I have the privilege to be working with students, staff, and parents this year in our Media Center.
I grew up in Virginia and received my teaching degree from Roanoke College. I have taught 2nd grade, 4th grade, and have worked in Special Education.
I have lived in Georgia for 27 years with my husband Jimmy. We have 2 children who are VCE alums. Our son is a University of North Georgia graduate and lives here in Cumming. Our daughter is a junior at Kennesaw State University.
I love reading and more importantly helping students to become life long readers, learners, and leaders.
I also enjoy spending time with my family and enjoying the outdoors.
I am looking forward to working with our school community this year!
Jack Maynard - PE
My name is Jack Maynard and I am part of the Health and Physical Education department at Vickery Creek Elementary. This is my 14th year teaching at Vickery Creek and my 18th year teaching Elementary Physical Education. I have a Health and Physical Education Degree from Valdosta State, a Master’s Degree in leadership from Kennesaw State and a Specialist Degree from Piedmont University. I am married, and I have three children Sam, Lola and Theo. I love Basketball and soccer and taking my dog for walks. Rhonda Tucker - Music
Rhonda Renee Tucker has been a K-5 Music Specialist for 37 years. This is her twelve year at Vickery Creek Elementary. She holds a BME from Birmingham-Southern College and a MME from Samford University. Rhonda has her NBCT and was honored with the Barbara Odom Distinguished Teacher Award from AMEA. She is a Orff Schulwerk Clinician and conducts workshops for State and National Music Organizations throughout the U.S. Her book , Words to Play By-15 Creative Music Lessons Using the Orff Approach was published in 2001.
Bill Wortman - PE
Hi I'm Bill Wortman. This is my 8th year at VCE. I was previously a middle school teacher in Fulton County. I love teaching about physical fitness and creating healthy habits in young people. I LOVE college football and can't wait to cheer on the TIDE!!

Laurie Edwards - Enrichment
Ms. Laurie Edwards is VCE’s Enrichment/STEM educator. Kindergarten and first grade students will engage in basic problem-solving and structural engineering tasks, as well as activities that support the mathematics, science and social studies standards they are studying in their homeroom classes. Second through fifth grade students will encounter design challenges and engineering activities that extend their math, science and social studies topics. Formerly a writer and editor in development aid, Ms. Edwards grew up in Atlanta, and has been teaching for 20 years.
