Dr. Lynne Castleberry

Dr. Lynne Castleberry has thirty years experience in teaching and learning. She believes that all students at Whitlow Elementary are being prepared for leaders in jobs that don't even exist, yet. She is proud of our staff and students and Whitlow and our State and International STEM Certification. The AdvancED Certification was obtained in November, 2015, and the State of Georgia STEM Certificatoin was obtained in May, 2017. Whitlow was one of 34 elementary schools receiving the AdvancED award and the first elementary school in Georgia. 

 She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Brenau University, her Master's degree in Education from Breneau University, her Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia, and finally, her doctorate from Clemson University. Prior to becoming principal, Dr. Castleberry taught in an elementary school and has served as as assistant principal. She is also the recepient of the Joe Richardson Award for Exemplary Leadership. 

Dr. Castleberry is a Forsyth County native whose heart lies within the Forsyth County School System. As a Forsyth County student herself and a mother of two daughters who attended Forsyth County schools, she has deep roots in the FCSS community. Dr. Castleberry's mother also spent her entire career working in the Forsyth County School System. She appreciates the hard work and commitment that teachers give in their effots into doing, in her words, "what's best for kids". In her free time, she enjoys time with her family, traveling, and fishing for redfish in the Gulf of Mexico.

Mr. Nick Sexton

Mr. Sexton is so excited to help make learning come alive this year!  He is a native of Forsyth County and proud former student of Forsyth County Schools.  He has a teaching background as a Social Studies, ELA, and Special Education teacher. This is his third year in administration after teaching and coaching for 10 years. He loves being an Assistant Principal because he gets to work with students, teachers, and families in a variety of ways!  He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications-Public Relations from Kennesaw State University prior to Master’s, Specialist, and Leadership degrees from Piedmont College.  He is married to Jessica and is Dad to Jaye Belle (6) and Jett (2). When he's not at school, he enjoys traveling to new places, playing golf, grilling out, watching the Braves/Falcons/Hawks, strumming the guitar, and reading lots of books. Mr. Sexton looks forward to serving the Whitlow community again this year!

Mrs. Jill Short

Mrs. Short is entering her twenty-first year in education and her fifteenth year as part of the Forsyth County School system. Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, she has settled with her family in Cumming after spending thirteen years in Weddington, NC. As an educator, she has spent the majority of her experience as a classroom teacher. She began her teaching career at the very earliest level of education in a transitional Kindergarten classroom. She quickly moved on to teaching first grade and made this grade level her home for several years. After moving from NC to GA in 2006, she began teaching at Silver City Elementary. While at SCES, she taught Kindergarten, First Grade and Writing Specials. In her final year at SCES, she was promoted to Literacy Coach and took on more administrative level duties as she completed her Educational Leadership Specialist degree. After earning her Ed.S., she accepted a position as Assistant Principal at Piney Grove Middle School and supported students and staff at PGMS for five years.

When she is not learning with students, peers, and parents, Mrs. Short can be found with her husband of 30 years (Jim) enjoying time with family. Their eldest son, Britton and his wife Kendra live in Charlotte with their two boys Whitner (2) and Sawyer (newborn). Their middle son, Tanner, is an industrial electrician in Charlotte and will marry Ashley in April, 2022. Their youngest son, Dellan, is entering his senior year as a theatre scholarship student with Gainesville Theatre Alliance at Brenau University, Gainesville. 

Mrs. Short is so excited to begin year two as part of the Whitlow Wolfpack family. She anticipates that 2021-22 promises to be a year filled with STEM happenings and renewed connections with families.  Mrs. Short hopes you will stop by and say hi when you visit our fabulous school!

Mrs. Sally Johnson

Sally is entering her thirteenth year as an educator. She has been at Whitlow since we opened in 2009. Over the years she has worked as a grade level teacher, EIP teacher, instructional coach and is now beginning her fourth year as Quality Work Facilitator. Sally holds a bachelors degree in elementary education from Auburn University, a Masters degree in reading, language, and literacy from Georgia State, and a specialist degree in curriculum and instruction from Piedmont University. She and her husband Zac have a seven year old daughter, Harper and a five year old son, Hugh. When she is not working she enjoys spending time with family and friends.
