•      Whitlow Elementary opened in 2009 with 1,000 students from Cumming, Shiloh Point and Vickery Creek Elementary Schools. The school is named after the late Mr. George W. Whitlow, who donated the land upon which the school sits as a reminder of his love of land and children. Mr. Whitlow served his country in the U.S. Navy and played for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Since opening our doors, Whitlow has made some amazing strides toward excellence! In our classrooms, students can be found huddled together making observations, conducting research, and collecting data as the teachers facilitate learning through the inquiry process. We believe that the students’ sense of wonder is a powerful tool, and it is used to drive instruction, thus the pursuance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) certifications.  'STEM' is a process of exploring, engaging, experimenting and expanding student's minds.
On November 20, 2015, AdvancED congratulated Whitlow Elementary School on receiving AdvancED STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Certification and becoming the first elementary school in Georgia to earn this award. This achievement is a mark of STEM distinction and excellence only offered to highly effective institutions that prioritize STEM education as a path to success. In earning this certification, Whitlow Elementary has demonstrated its commitment to preparing its students for their educational and career opportunities of the future by ensuring its students will have the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in their post-secondary pursuits and as workforce contributors in the 21st-century economy.
On May 1, 2017, the State of Georgia congratulated Whitlow Elementary School on receiving State STEM Certification, becoming the first school in Forsyth County to be dually STEM certified, state and nationally.
Whitlow Elementary is very proud to be a recipient of several Greatest Gains awards as well as the Best of Forsyth award for 'Best Elementary School' in 2017. Most recently, Whitlow was recognized out of only 7 elementary schools in Forsyth County by the Georgia Department of Education as a "2023-24 Math Leader School". We continue to make strides towards excellence every year.
