Mrs. Julie Fitton

Hello, Miners! My name is Julie Fitton and I am thrilled to share my love of reading as the Media Specialist at Coal Mountain! My husband, Peter, and I moved to Forsyth County from South Florida back in 2010 and absolutely love it here! We have three amazing children: Makayla in 9th grade at North Forsyth High, Cooper in 7th grade, and Audrey in 6th grade, both at North Forsyth Middle. I graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. In 2011, I obtained my master’s degree in Teaching and Learning from Liberty University. I have previously taught grades 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. My goal as the media specialist is to empower students to become critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and responsible digital citizens. I am looking forward to an incredible school year in the media center where every student will explore, discover, and grow!

Ms. Jennifer Turbeville

Follow the sound of the beat where you will find students jamming the latest song or music from the 1500's. My name is Jennifer Turbeville, and I love all aspects of music. I grew up in the Coal Mountain area and went to school as a 4th grade student at Coal Mountain when the school opened in 1981. I began my music career singing and playing keyboard on the road even before I earned my music education degree from University of North Georgia. I have two children who are in college at Kennesaw State University and University of North Georgia. We love taking Jeep rides, visiting the mountains or beach, and spending time with each other. When you walk into my music room, we will explore all different types of music and sounds from all around the world. My students learn how to make music playing string, keyboard, woodwind, and percussion instruments. We have so much fun demonstrating the steady beat through dance, movement and drumming. The music curriculum also includes music theater and drama. I can't wait to share your favorite music style and hear your talents!

Mrs. Denise Webb

Welcome to Discovery Lab! Here we will be learning about science and engineering by investigating phenomena and problems that are faced in the real world. As decision makers and problem solvers you will explore, ask questions and learn fun ways to discuss and share your findings. Everyone will participate in our Diamond Diggers Garden! Different grade levels will participate in preparing garden beds, watering, weeding, planting, harvesting and sometimes preparing the foods we grow. Many of our herbs and vegetables will be delivered by students to the lunchroom to be prepared by our amazing lunchroom staff and made available for all students to try. You will learn firsthand the natural growth of plants, the impact our environment has on their growth, how our food supply works, and the importance of pollinators and ecosystem that our garden attracts and supports. In addition to teaching, I am a Science Ambassador Director where I train high school students from North, East and Alliance High Schools how to run the Family STEAM Nights in all six of the North Forsyth Elementary Schools. I serve on the Keep Forsyth County Beautiful Board, teaching about environmental education and recycling in our community. My family enjoys gardening, hiking, and volunteering to help our community.

I'm so excited for a new year at CMES! I love our school community. After studying art and education, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and a Minor in Fine Art from Augusta State Univeristy. When I am not in the classroom, I spend time hiking, drawing, reading, and listening to music. You can also find me at the soccer fields and football fields watching my two sons play or my husband coach.
