Mrs. Buice has been at Chestatee Elementary School since 2003. Mrs. Buice graduated from North Georgia College and State University with a dual degree in Early Childhood and Special Education. In addition, she has reading and gifted endorsements on her teaching certification. She is very excited to teach Special Education again this year!
Leigh Clark is a physical therapist and has been working in the Forsyth County School System since July 2006; previously she worked for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. She travels to several schools in the school system, yet she has had the opportunity to serve Chestatee since her start in 2006. Ms. Clark works with special education students in the educational setting to improve accessibility to their environments. Leigh has three children, ages 13, 8, and 7; two are currently at Chestatee and will be in 2nd and 3rd grade, and the oldest will be in 7th grade at Little Mill Middle School. She loves being at the “T” as much as her schedule allows!
Cierra Cappon is so excited to be joining the IRR Team. This will be her first year teaching. She graduated from the University of North Georgia with a bachelor's in early childhood and special education degree with a reading endorsement. Her gift to teaching is building relationships. She is very excited for next year!
Diane (Winters) Hansen will be joining the Special Education Team. She has co taught for 16 years in third, fourth, and fifth grades, and is a former club and high school soccer coach. Diane holds a BS degree in Psychology, a Masters Degree in Social Work, teaching certification from UGA graduate school, and an EdS degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She and her husband Russ, have a combined total of 6 children, all of whom are successful adults. She loves traveling, Atlanta United, and is attempting to play tennis. Her gift to teaching is making people laugh. Making learning fun will keep the students engaged and coming back for more. She can’t wait to become a Chestatee Eagle!
This is Lori Holbrooks 26th year at Chestatee. She has taught pre-k, 1st, 3rd, EIP and Special Education. She has a Bachelor's degree from UNG and a Master's degree from GCU. She loves working at Chestatee.
This will be Lacey McClellan's 5th year of teaching, and third year at chestatee. She has taught 1st grade, Title, and is now thrilled to be teaching Special Education. She received her bachelors degree from Kennesaw State University.
This is Rhonda McWhorter's 16th year teaching and her 4th year at Chestatee Elementary. Mrs. McWhorter received her Master's degree in Middle School Education from University of North Georgia, and she received her Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont College. She has enjoyed three amazing years at Chestatee teaching 5th grade math and science. This year, Mrs. McWhorter is excited to challenge students by incorporating real-world problem-solving into all academic areas.
This will be Karen McCarthy's 24th year of teaching. This is her 9th year at Chestatee Elementary. Mrs. McCarthy has received her Bachelor's degree in Intellectual Disabilities and her Master's degree in Learning and Behavioral Disorders. In her 23 years, she has taught interrelated education and children with intellectual disabilities at the elementary and middle school levels. She is excited for another year at Chestatee Elementary.
Kelly Ortiz will be joining the Special Ed team as an IRR teacher. She is a recent graduate from the University of North Georgia majoring in Early Childhood/ Special education with a Reading Endorsement. She has a passion for special education and is very excited to start her first year of teaching at Chestatee Elementary! She and her husband, Abraham, love to watch movies, read books, and go to concerts. Her gift to teaching is creating fun engaging learning that meets her students’ individual learning needs.
This will be Mrs. Pollock's 2nd year at Chestatee Elementary and her 7th year as a teacher! Mrs. Pollock graduated from Ball State with a degree in Special Education Intense Interventions. Mrs. Pollock has taught Kindergarten through 12th grade throughout her time as an educator. She is super excited to spend time and teach her group of students this year!
This will be Mrs. Pruitt's 8th year as an educator. Mrs. Pruitt graduated from North Georgia College and State University with a dual degree in Early Childhood and Special Education in addition to her Reading endorsement. She later graduated from the University of North Georgia with a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education and her Gifted and ESOL endorsements. She has experience teaching 3rd and 4th grade, and providing special education support and early intervention support to 1st through 5th grade and pre-K. She is very excited to continue to support Chestatee students this year!
This will be Beth Shelton's 18th year of teaching. She has been at Chestatee 11 years. Mrs. Shelton received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Auburn University. She has taught both general education and special education. Mrs. Shelton is very excited to be working with the students of Chestatee.
This is Mrs. Shirley's 6th year teaching at Chestatee Elementary! Mrs. Shirley graduated from UNG with a dual degree in Early Childhood and Special Education. She later graduated from UNG with her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education and her Gifted endorsement. Mrs. Shirley will be earning her next degree of Educational Specialist from Piedmont College this spring. She has a passion for teaching and looks forward to all the fun to come this year!
Jessica Stanley is starting her 4th year teaching at Chestatee Elementary. Mrs. Stanley graduated from of the University of North Georgia with a dual degree in Early Childhood and Special Education as well as her reading endorsement. She believes that getting to know her students and making a connection with each individual student is key. “Once I get to know a child, I am able to push them to meet their highest potential.” Mrs. Stanley is looking forward to this school year.
Mrs. Thomas is looking forward to her third year as part of the Chestatee family. She has her Bachelor's and Master's Degree with a Reading endorsement from the University of North Georgia. Mrs. Thomas has worked with Kindergarten through 5th grade in the area of Special Education for the past ten years. Her teaching experience of 19 years includes teaching 4-5 yr. old preschool and third grade in private settings. Mrs. Thomas is eager to meet her new students for the 2018-19 school year and guide their individual learning in all areas.
