    About GHP

Timelines for 2024 summer program will be released as they are made available by the state and district.

The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students who will be rising juniors and seniors during the program.  The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom. It is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.

GHP is held in mid-summer (mid-June to mid-July) as a residential educational experience on a college or university campus. Students attend classes in the mornings and afternoons in specific areas of study, and they participate in a wide variety of social and instructional opportunities every evening. Meals and rooms are provided by the program. The only required and expected costs to the students are: travel expenses to and from the interviews; a few basic supplies for classes and dorm rooms; and spending money as desired during the program.

    School Nomination Process:

    • Lambert High School students must be nominated by a teacher for a particular department or area for GHP.
      • Teacher nomination window opens Thursday, August 24th and closes Friday, September 8th @ 5:00 PM.
      • Areas of Nomination
      • Teacher nomination does not guarantee a recommendation to move on to district/ state level competition.
      •  If a student is nominated for multiple GHP areas, they must select an area PRIOR to school level selection.
        • In other words, if a student is nominated in multiple areas, they can't go through the selection process in multiple areas, waiting to see what areas they are recommended to move on to the district level competition.
        • They must declare the nominating area prior to the school level selection process.
    • Each department has a selection process to determine the 1-2 students from each department or area, who will move on to the district competition.
      • Students moving on to the district level competition will be asked to complete an application, including a written recommendation from their nominating teacher.

    • Forsyth county will provide the final allotment numbers of how many students may move into district competition, based on state allotments from the Governors Honors Program. Based on the district allotments for Lambert High School,  the list of students nominated for the district will be submitted to the Forsyth County GHP Coordinator.
      • The school nomination submission deadline will be updated as it is released. Students will be notified about their moving on to the district level competition after fall break.
      •  County applications will be released to students moving on to the district level competition.
        • Information regarding application deadlines and interviews will be posted and communicated to students as they are released in early September.
Interested students should reach out to a department chair or potential nominating teacher in their area of interest for GHP.
