Kelly Mill Robotics Team
4th and 5th-grade students at Kelly Mill Elementary School will have the opportunity to participate in the VEX IQ Robotics program (www.vexrobotics.com/vexiq) during the school year. This is a rigorous program and requires complete commitment on the part of participating students and their families.
VEX IQ teams are made up of 2 students who create, build, program, and drive a robot on a field in a teamwork match with an alliance team. The robot is one aspect of the competition. Each team will also submit a STEM Research Project and an Engineering Notebook, as well as participate in interviews. The robotics program helps prepare students for life after the classroom by teaching real-world skills and the application of academic lessons.
Each team of 2 students will stay intact thru all qualifying competitions (approximately 6 between September and January), State competition (if earned, will be in February), and World Championship (if earned, will be in April). Students will not be allowed to swap teams after their team name and letter have been submitted to VEX IQ. Only students on the teams that qualify for the State and/or World Championship will be allowed to participate. All team members may attend, but the students who qualify will be the ones to participate.
