Elementary School Overview
Forsyth County Schools is home to 23 outstanding elementary schools, featuring grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. All buildings are new or recently renovated, and include a cafeteria, media center, stage, gymnasium, playground, and outdoor playfields. School designs vary across the county and include one or two-story buildings. FCS offers Ninth District Opportunity Georgia Pre-K programs. Please contact Ninth District Opportunity directly for information and enrollment. Students who will be five years old on or before September 1 are enrolled in full-day Kindergarten. Elementary schools begin at either 7:40 am (normal release at 2:20 pm and for scheduled early release days, students depart at 11:50 am) or 8:20 am (normal release at 3:00 pm and for scheduled early release days, students depart at 12:30 pm). Based on primary residency, school attendance lines determine the elementary school children attend. Students study language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. In addition to the core areas, students also receive instruction by certified teachers in physical education, art, music, and other exciting connections areas. Elementary schools provide numerous programs to meet the needs of all students such as special education (including speech), early intervention, English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and gifted. All schools have a full-time certified nurse on staff, as well as counselors and Educational Technology Coaches (ETC). Each school offers an after-school program and has numerous volunteer opportunities for parents, including PTA/Os, Local School Councils (LSC), mentoring and classroom volunteers. Transportation is provided for all students, and breakfast and lunch are served daily. |
