Forsyth County Schools is home to eight outstanding high schools, featuring grades nine through twelve. The district also provides the Academies of Creative Education (A.C.E.), which features three programs: Forsyth Academy, Gateway Academy (6-12 alternative program), and Forsyth Virtual Academy (6-12 virtual program). Mountain Education Charter Schools is offered as an evening school option for students and families. School designs vary across the county, and include one or two-story buildings.
Based on primary residency, school attendance lines determine the high school children attend. Out-of-district requests are available for students based on academic program needs.
High school students are evaluated using a report card with numeric averages from 0 - 100. Students must meet diploma requirements in three areas:
- Assessments: All students take the Georgia Milestones End of Course (EOC) assessments in 9th grade Language Arts, American Literature, Algebra, Geometry, United States History, Economics, Physical Science, and Biology. These students must pass the course to meet graduation requirements.
- Courses: Students must complete and pass specific EOC course requirements as outlined by the graduation rule.
- Credits: Students must earn 23 units as a minimum state requirement for graduation. Additional requirements may be established by the local district.
Multiple schools offer career academies for students, and workforce development (CTAE) programs are provided for a number of programs. Work-based learning and youth apprenticeship experiences are options for FCS high school students to make connections from classroom learning to the real world.
High schools provide numerous programs to meet the needs of all students such as special education (includes speech), early intervention, English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and gifted students. Please visit each school's website for a complete list.
All schools have full-time certified nurses on staff, as well as counselors and Educational Technology Specialists (ETCs). Each school has numerous volunteer opportunities for parents, including PTA/Os, boosters, Local School Councils (LSC), mentoring and classroom volunteers. Transportation is provided for all students, and breakfast and lunch are served daily.
