Middle School Overview

Forsyth County Schools is home to 11 outstanding middle schools, featuring grades six through eight. All facilities are state of the art and include a cafeteria, media center, gymnasium, and outdoor athletic fields.

The middle school day begins at 9:00 am and ends at 4:15 pm. Based on primary residency, school attendance lines determine which middle school children attend. Students study basic skills such as language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. In addition to the core areas, students also receive instruction by certified teachers in connections classes. Examples include health and physical education, art, music, band, chorus, business and computer science, engineering and technology, and drama. All middle schools offer high school credit for every student in physical science. In addition, students have opportunities to receive high school credit in subject areas from math and foreign language to electives.

Middle schools provide numerous programs to meet the needs of all students such as special education (includes speech), early intervention, English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and gifted students. School websites have a complete list of the activities, clubs, and athletics offered at each school.

All schools have full-time certified nurses on staff, as well as counselors and Educational Technology Coaches (ETCs). Each school has numerous volunteer opportunities for parents, including PTA/Os, boosters, Local School Councils (LSC), mentoring, and classroom volunteers. Breakfast and lunch are served daily to students.

In addition to the traditional schools, FCS also offers a 6-12 virtual program,  Forsyth Virtual Academy, and an alternative program at Gateway Academy.
