BOE Appoints Four New Principals for 2021-22

  1. Courtney McKinney has been named principal of Big Creek Elementary for 2021-22.  Ms. McKinney is currently assistant principal at Whitlow Elementary where she transferred from Daves Creek after serving there as assistant principal from 2016.  She has been a Quality Work Facilitator, EIP, kindergarten, first, third and fifth grade teacher, serving at Daves Creek, Chestatee , Shiloh Point, and Chattahoochee Elementary schools.   She began her education career at Nesbit Elementary in Tucker, GA in 1998.  She also was assistant principal at Mt. Vernon Elementary in Hall County for four years.  She holds a B.A. in elementary education from University of North Florida and a M.A. in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Laura Webb, current Big Creek Elementary principal, will be the principal of New Hope Elementary for 2021-22.

  1. Daphne Rogers has been named principal of Midway Elementary for 2021-22.  She has been assistant principal at Midway since 2016.  Her first assistant principal position was at Shiloh Point in 2012.  Prior to being appointed as assistant principal at Shiloh Point, she was a first grade teacher and an Early Intervention Program Specialist. She has been an elementary teacher at Matt Elementary, Simonton Elementary and Hopkins Elementary in Gwinnett County, J.H.C. Butler Elementary in Savannah-Chatham County, and Loganville Elementary in Walton County.  She holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from Presbyterian College in South Carolina, a M.S. in Elementary Reading and Literacy Instruction from Walden University in Minnesota and an Educational Leadership Endorsement from Kennesaw State University. Jan Munroe, current Midway Elementary principal, is retiring at the conclusion of the 2020-21 school year.

  1. Brian Keefer has been named principal of Sharon Elementary for 2021-22.  Mr. Keefer is coming to Forsyth County from Henry County where he has served as principal of Hampton Elementary School since 2015.  Prior to moving to Henry County, Mr. Keefer was co-principal in PreK-8th in Savannah Chatham County System for three and a half years, assistant principal in Beaufort County School District in North Carolina as well as an elementary teacher and K-12 Special Education teacher in Lancaster County Schools in Pennsylvania beginning in 2001.  He holds a B.A. in Elementary and Special Education and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Pennsylvania, Millersville, PA, a Specialist in Educational Leadership from Georgia Southern University and is expected to complete the doctoral program in 2022 in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia.  He is president of the Georgia Association of Elementary Principals and has recently been nominated as National Distinguished Principal. Amy Bartlett, current Sharon Elementary principal, will be the district Elementary School Director for 2021-22.

  1. Keith Sargent has been named principal of DeSana Middle for 2021-22.  Mr. Sargent is currently Assistant Principal at Denmark High after transferring from assistant principal at South High.  Prior to joining our district in 2016, Mr. Sargent was at Berkmar High in Gwinnett County for five years.  He was an assistant principal and a school business manager during his tenure there.   His teaching career began1999 in Gwinnett County in the field of Special Education.  He holds a B.S. in Special Education from Presbyterian College in South Carolina, a M.A. in Health Science and an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with an add-on certificate in Educational Leadership from the University of West Georgia. Terri North, current DeSana Middle principal, is retiring at the conclusion of the 2020-21 school year.
