After retirement, many people move to the beach or hit the road in an RV, but many FCS retired educators join the Forsyth County Retired Educators Association (FCREA). This group continues to be involved and impact the lives of students even after they retire. The motto of their organization is Fellowship, Service and Support. Their 215 members are actively engaged in a variety of community activities, like collecting food for The Place of Forsyth, running the Cumming Schoolhouse each year at the fair, and providing support for the annual FCS retirement reception. Their members logged over 6500 hours of individual community service activities last year.
Many of the community activities the members of the FCREA participate in are in our schools and supporting our students. They include partnering with local non-profits to provide food and gifts at the holidays for students in need, volunteering in schools, reading to students, mentoring, and serving as judges for many school fairs, contests, Young Author competition, spelling bee, and Teacher of the Year. The organization also recognizes the STAR students and teachers each year at their meetings. They also award two $1,000 scholarships annually to seniors for college.
Thank you to the Forsyth County Retired Educators Association for being a wonderful Partner in Education!
