FCS Grading Guidelines EOY 19/20

Dear VCMS Families,

I hope all of you are well during these uncertain times.  VCMS is here for you.  If there is anything you need please be sure to reach out to any of the VCMS staff members and let us know how we can help.

Last night, the Forsyth County Board of Education approved and released their updated guidelines for grading and assessment for the remainder of the year. A link to this information is located at the bottom of this message. I encourage you to review the entire document so that you can have a full understanding of what this means for you and your children. It is a big move by our district, and one that was made with our students and families as the highest priorities in mind. In short, the idea is "do no harm". We know that this sudden turn of events and this incredible shift to online learning has been a challenge for everyone, many students and families are facing extraordinary circumstances in their own lives, and we do not want students to be penalized in any way for that. Once you have a chance to read through the changes and have any questions, please be sure to let us know.

In addition, you will see that middle schools have the opportunity to change up their schedules a bit during the remainder of the year.  This has been discussed with the district, other middle school leaders, and with our VCMS staff.  It has been decided beginning Monday, April 20, VCMS will be moving to a “Block” schedule for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.  The following will be the online learning schedule that VCMS will use for the remainder of the year.  If you have any questions about this, please let us know, as well.

Monday/Wednesday:  ELA, Reading (6/7), Spanish (8), and Social Studies (30-40 mins per class)

Tuesday/Thursday:  Math, Science and Connections/Math Plus (30-40 mins per class)

Friday: Friday Catch-Up

We hope that these changes will help make the remainder of our year better.  We ALL miss you and look forward to the day we can be together again.
