Spotlight on 2022-23 Fueling the Future Grant Winners!
At New Educator Orientation in 2023, Forsyth County Education Foundation announced the first winners of the Fueling the Future grants, sponsored by Mark Heard Fuel. These grants were given to 4 new teachers from the 2022-23 school year to use for innovative projects to fuel student learning in their classrooms. Learn more about the winners and how the projects were completed in their classrooms in 2023-24.
Sarah Nelson, Cumming ES
Ms. Nelson was able to use these funds to transform her classroom into a Deaf friendly environment with lighting that is not straining to eyes that are using ASL interpreters, additional specialized support materials for signing, and created a more accessible and productive place for learning for her students. Casey Skeggs, Sawnee ES
Ms. Skeggs created Thinkins Spaces in her classroom for student collaboration and purchased items for students to use during the creative writing process. Click here for more information about her project implementation in the 2023-24 school year. (click here for presentation)
Kazumi Alabaster, Vickery Creek MS

Jennifer Dixon, South Forsyth HS
Ms. Dixon established "Energy Unit" labs in nine sections of AP Environmental Science to help students learn about geothermal energy by creating and testing a closed-loop model of a geothermal heat exchanger similar to those used to cool the interiors of buildings during summer.
